The Portmanteau Bag ™ began in the winter of 2021. But the story really starts around a table, with Pomidorowa Soup & Schabowy z Ziemniakami Dish™, Matura z Biologii i Chemii, and my grandmother’s sewing machine.
At first, I wanted to make pants. I forgot to take the fabric swatches. We made a tote instead.
One became two. Then a few more. First for myself. Then for friends. We weren’t building a brand. Just making a useful object — out of curiosity, and the need for such object in my life.
The first bag wasn’t perfect. Neither is the last. Seams shift. Threads wander. Every pocket sits a little different. And that’s the point. Machines repeat. We don’t.
The Portmanteau Bag™ is still made in home(s). Some by Babcia Ewa. Some by others who work like she does: patient, precise, slightly stubborn. We now make Aprons and Wall Organizers. Everything is fully customizable to your needs and vision. Always in small batches. Always with intention.
We also take on Bespoke Projects — one-offs, made-to-measure bags, and pieces tailored to specific needs or ideas.
No webshop. No instant checkout. If you're interested, we talk.
If you visit our online store and see “Sold Out,” know this: it’s not because we’ve stopped making. It’s because we want to hear from you first. If something resonates, message us on Instagram or send an email — you’ll find everything you need on our Contact page.
What we believe:
— Family before anything. My grandmother and I still work together.
— Meaning over marketing.
— Slightly different is better than exactly the same.
We use heavyweight canvas. We wash it hot, by hand, before we sew. Every bag includes MW STUDIOS embroidery and the year it was made. There’s space inside for you to add your own.
This is not a product. It’s a process.
It’s not a fashion brand. It’s function, with emotion built in.

Founder
P.S. As only a few may know: The Portmanteau Bag™ and MW STUDIOS LANDSCAPE COMPANY would have never existed if it weren’t for Virgil Abloh.
We never met — but I “encountered” you. Your work, your words, and your way of showing up gave me the courage to keep making, to keep sharing. Thank you for doing what felt right — relentlessly.
